Kasia Kmita was born in 1972 in Nowa Ruda. She studied at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 1996, she received a diploma in painting. She lives and works in Wrocław

In 1996, she was awarded the Minister of Culture and Art Prize Promotions’96. In 1998, in Eugeniusz Geppert Competition, she received the Rector Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 2006, during the Biennale of Young Art Rybie Oko, she received the prize for a series of works combining the elements of Polish folklore and pop culture. She received an honorable mention of “Łossskot” TV culture magazine for the most interesting figures of culture in 2007. She was granted a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage twice (in 2011 and 2017).

In her practice, Kasia Kmita uses meticulously prepared cut-outs. Her colourful compositions present the artist’s outlook on the contemporary culture, trends and lifestyles. She carefully watches the changes occurring in the society, analyses human desires and the mechanisms governing our behaviour and psyche.
