In the ancient times, that is in the second half of the 19th century, women from the Łowicz district occupied themselves with cutting out lavishly ornamental stars.” They used well known motifs from the world they lived in: flowers, leaves and cockerels. Nowadays we are surrounded by logotypes and television rather than flora and fauna so the act of transforming a recognisable logo (The Powerpuff Girls have become a logo too) into a folk emblem is absolutey justified. Kasia Kmita’s cut-outs present a logo that has been ennobled. Isn’t its presence in the work of art a cultural or maybe cultured promotion? Logo and mark are our new folk motifs and this folk quality is presented in Kmita’s works.
