Katarzyna Kmita was born in 1972 in Nowa Ruda, Poland. In 1996, she earned a diploma in painting from the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 1996, she received the Minister of Culture and Art Award "Promotions '96." In 1998, she received the Rector's Award of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław in the "Eugeniusz Geppert Competition." In 2006, she was awarded at the "Rybie Oko" Biennale of Young Art for a series of works that combined elements of Polish folklore and pop culture. She was also recognized by the "Łossskot" magazine as one of the most interesting figures in culture in 2007. She has received the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship three times (2011, 2017, 2022), as well as the "Kultura w sieci" scholarship in 2020. In 2022, she was awarded the Presidential Scholarship of Wrocław.
